In recognition of its outstanding commitment to integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into teaching and learning, Sunyani Technical University (STU) has been honoured with the SDG Teaching and Learning Leadership Award at the 6th Africa Sustainability Report & Think Energy SDGs Awards 2025. The ceremony, held on 22 October 2025 in Accra, celebrated institutions and leaders advancing sustainability across Africa.
The award specifically acknowledges STU’s efforts in embedding SDG-focused curricula and pedagogy that empower students to become change-makers in sustainability, energy, and innovation. With industry-aligned, hands-on programmes and research centres, the University has demonstrated leadership in equipping graduates for the green transition. The accolade reflects the institution’s mission to deliver practical, high-impact education that meets national and global challenges.
Receiving the award, STU’s Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah Appiah, reiterated the University’s pledge to strengthen its teaching, research, and outreach in sustainability. “ This award stands as a strong testament to our commitment to embed sustainability into every aspect of teaching, research, and community engagement at STU,” he said.
“We will continue to build innovative programmes and partnerships that address Ghana’s and Africa’s development challenges,” he stated.
The recognition positions STU among the continent’s leading institutions in SDG-oriented education, reinforcing its role as Ghana’s premier technical university delivering both academic excellence and sustainable impact.
