A new Governing Council of the Sunyani Technical University (STU) was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, at a brief ceremony in Accra on Friday June 27, 2025.
The 19-member Governing Council is chaired by Professor Samuel Awuah-Nyamekye, a Professor of Religion and Environment at the Department of Religion and Human Values in the University of Cape Coast.
Other members include the Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Professor Kwadwo Adinkra-Appiah; John Owusu Agyeman, Eunice Obrihe Anner Appiah Larbi and Ing. Dr. Gilbert Ayine Akolgo, who are the President’s nominees on the Council; Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca Arthur, the representative of the National Council for Tertiary Education; Engineer Rev. Ebenezer Kofi Gyekye-Obuobi, the representative of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training; Mr. Samuel Ntim Adu, who is representing the Association of Ghana Industries and Mr. Gordon Osei Marfo, who is the serving on the ticket of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools.
Mr. George Agyenim Boateng and Gideon Hackman are standing in for STU’s Convocation with Dr. Kwadwo Boateng Prempeh representing the teaching staff. Mr. Rockson Addae is the representative of the Senior Staff Association while Mr. Sule Iddrisu is representing the Junior Staff Association. Ms. Lawrencia Serwaa Akoto is representing undergraduate students while Mr. Abban Kofi Justice is representing the graduate students.
The STU Alumni Association is ably represented by its President, Mr. George Evans Awuah, with Mr. Robert O. Mensah standing in for the Ghana Employers Association while the Association of Principals of Technical Institutes is represented by Rev. Br. Patrick Sokuu.
Inaugurating the Council, the education minister, Haruna Iddrisu, repeated government’s commitment toward improving the current state of the various campuses of public universities across the country.
He was positive that Sunyani Technical University will get its fair share of infrastructural development by the John Mahama-led government.
