Three students from the Department of Architecture and Real Estate (DARE), Sunyani Technical University (STU), have emerged as winners of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Students Challenge held during the IFMA Global Conference in Accra on August 12 and 13, 2026.
The winning team comprised five students drawn from three institutions: Sunyani Technical University, the University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Wa, Ghana, and Makerere University Business School, Uganda.
The team was led by Mr. Samuel Nyametiase, a Level 400 BTech Facilities Management student of STU. The other two STU members of the winning team were Miss Priscilla Akurugu, a Level 300 BTech Facilities Management student, and Mr. Elija Owusu, a Level 100 BSc Real Estate student.
The achievement highlights the growing impact of STU's training in facilities management and real estate and the University's commitment to equipping students with practical knowledge and competencies for professional and global opportunities.
Three other DARE students also participated in the Students Challenge as members of three separate teams. They were Mr. Ernest Atta Sukar, Level 400 BTech Facilities Management; Mr. Osman Ra-ad, Level 400 BTech Facilities Management; and Miss Adjouba Ayeba-Miezah, Level 100 BSc Architectural Technology.
As part of the recognition for their outstanding performance, the winning team, including the three DARE students, has been granted full sponsorship to participate in the next IFMA Global Conference in Belgium.
The achievement is a significant milestone for the students and the Department of Architecture and Real Estate, showcasing the calibre, competitiveness and global potential of STU students.
