The Association of African Sustainability Practitioners (AASuP) has conferred the inaugural Think Energy SDGs Construction Leadership Award on the Vice-Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University (STU), Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, in recognition of his pioneering work in green technologies, sustainable construction research and innovation, renewable energy and sustainability education.
The award was conferred on Ing. Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah during AASuP’s first webinar chaired by Prof. Amevi Akakpovi, the Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, last Friday.
In a citation presented to the STU Vice-Chancellor, the association noted that Ing. Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah is credited with spearheading the Green Campus masterplan for STU, driving the electric vehicle and industrial welding technologies research and innovation from waste and other local materials, as well as the adaptation of solar power for campus water systems, championing sustainable construction in Ghana.
“In honour of his outstanding contributions to sustainable construction and energy transition, AASuP proudly presents this award, acknowledging his dedication to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals”, the citation further said.
Responding, Ing. Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of AASUP for the recognition.
“It will inspire me to do more in helping keep the environment safe for Sunyani Technical University, the city of Sunyani, the Bono Region, Ghana, Africa and the entire globe”, he said.
