The Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Arts (FBEAA) of Sunyani Technical University (STU) has officially launched the 9th edition of SONO DWAEE 2026, a week-long techno-cultural festival aimed at showcasing the creativity, innovation and practical competencies of students within the faculty.
The launch ceremony, held at the forecourt of K. Nsiah-Gyabaa Auditorium, was chaired by the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Evans Zoya Kpamma, who commended the Faculty and the organising committee for sustaining an initiative that continues to promote practical education, innovation and entrepreneurship among students. He described SONO DWAEE as one of the University's flagship academic and cultural events, reflecting STU's commitment to producing industry-ready graduates through hands-on training.
Prof. Kpamma encouraged students to continue developing their talents and practical skills, noting that creativity and innovation remain essential drivers of national development and global competitiveness.
The event brought together lecturers from the Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Arts, departmental representatives, students and invited guests from several second-cycle institutions, including Odumaseman Senior High School, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Sunyani Technical Institute, Twene Amanfo Senior High Technical School, and Notre Dame Girls' Senior High School.
A major highlight of the launch was the presentation of a digital industrial sewing machine donated by Kizito Trading Enterprise to support practical teaching and learning within the Faculty. The donation was warmly received and appreciated as a significant contribution towards enhancing skills training and student innovation.
As part of the celebration, students from the Department of Fashion Design and Textiles Education, Department of Wood Technology, and Department of Ceramics mounted impressive exhibitions featuring a wide range of innovative products, artistic works and contemporary designs. The displays reflected the creativity, technical competence and entrepreneurial potential of STU students, attracting admiration from visitors and participating schools.
The 2026 edition of SONO DWAEE is being celebrated under the theme "Techno-Culture Fusion" and features a series of activities, including seminars, a float through the municipality, exhibitions and a grand fashion show.
Through SONO DWAEE, Sunyani Technical University continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading institution in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), providing students with opportunities to transform creativity into innovation, industry solutions and sustainable careers while promoting the University's tradition of excellence through practical education.
