The Building Technology Department is one of the oldest Departments in the University. The Department offers various programmes in construction ranging from the COTVET intermediate level through Higher National Diploma (HND) level to Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) level. The Department of Building Technology is one of the few Departments at the University currently running a Bachelor degree program.
The Mission of the Department of Building Technology is to provide high quality, career-focused education and training in construction related programmes at the tertiary with emphasis on practical work and experience, as well as entrepreneurial skills to students to meet the middle and management level manpower needs of the country’s construction industry.

A draft curriculum has been prepared for the introduction of a Master of Technology (M-Tech) programme in Construction Management.
Some of the infrastructure available to the Department for effective teaching and research include Building and Civil Materials Laboratories, Production Unit, Workshops, Classrooms, Library, Computer Laboratory, Offices, Drawing Studio, Projectors, Plotter, Double Cabin Pickup, etc.

The Department provides short professional courses for artisans in the construction industry and is also engaged in consultancy services, cost evaluation, design and supervision of construction projects.
One of the key components of training at all levels at the Building Department is exposure to real life industrial and professional practices. This is achieved through the organization of internships, industrial attachments and field trips. The Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) programme which is run on the Competency-Based Training (CBT) model has one of the three semesters devoted to internship. The Higher National Diploma (HND) students also undertake mandatory vacation training with industry as a requirement for graduation.
